Sophisticated Issey Miyake Perfumes For Men and Women Reviewed

March 15th, 2010

Fashion designer Issey Miyake’s L’eau D’Issey line of perfumes, established in 1992, has traditionally centered around two main fragrances-one for women, and one for men. Both Issey Miyake perfumes are world renowned for their delicate quality and subtlety, which has made them a mainstay everywhere from high-end boutiques to mall department stores. The international character of the scents gives wearers an air of cosmopolitan sophistication that always turns heads and draws compliments.

Issey Miyake Perfumes for Women

The first of the Issey Miyake perfumes was L’eau D’Issey for women. First released in 1992, it was an instant hit, and it has only grown in popularity ever since. The fragrance is extremely complex, made of a full range of floral, woody, and musky tones. The dominant floral scents include cyclamen, freesia, white lilies, and carnations, while other, subtler notes include fresh peonies, rose water, precious woods, tuberose, amberseed, and osmanthus. All of this adds up to a sparkling fragrance with a warm base.

L’Eau D’Issey is perfect for women of all ages. Depending on the context in which you wear it, it can be a flirty fragrance for a date night, a subtle scent to wear at work, or a little refresher to get you through a long day. All you need is two or three small pumps from the attractive glass bottle, and you’ll smell beautiful for a good 10 hours. In fact, some wearers have noted that the scent even lasts a little too long-sometimes overnight, so that you still carry a little bit of the scent the next day.

Issey Miyake Perfumes for Men

The L’Eau D’Issey perfume for men takes its cues from the women’s version, but it’s much more masculine, full of citrus, spice, and plenty of low notes of amber, woods, and musk.

As several fragrance reviewers have noted, L’Eau D’Issey for men is perfect for those who have developed their style through scents like Polo Sport, Hugo Boss For Men, Curve by Liz Claiborne, or True Star by Tommy Hilfiger. L’Eau D’Issey has much in common with the better quality scents among this batch, but it has extra elements and finer craftsmanship that make it complex, vastly appealing, and long lasting.

If you’re one of those men who doesn’t like to douse yourself in so much scent that people can smell you from across the room, then you might want to give L’Eau D’Issey a try. All you need is a couple of little sprays from the bottle, and you’ll have a subtle, barely noticeable scent that will last all day. While it won’t overtly reach the noses of the people in the same room as you, anyone who gets close will certainly notice a distinguished, cosmopolitan scent that is masculine and attractive.

All in all, Issey Miyake perfumes are a great buy for perfume enthusiasts and newcomers alike. They tend to be slightly more expensive than their more mainstream counterparts, but you do get extra quality in the trade-off.

Beauty Tips for Winter: Look Bright and Sunny in the Frigid Months

March 11th, 2010

It doesn’t matter who you are: The winter wreaks havoc on everyone’s hair and skin. Some people are content to suffer through it as best they can before restoring their looks to top condition in the spring. Some of us, though, don’t want to allow a little bit of cold and wind to keep us from looking our best. Sure, during the winter you may have to double or triple the amount of time you spend every day on your appearance, but that’s just a sacrifice we have to make to look good.

If you’re the type of person who doesn’t want to give up on your appearance just because it’s winter, here are a few ideas to keep your looks summery and healthy.

Keep Applying Sunscreen: The biggest mistake that so many people make is assuming that the sun can’t get to them during the winter. But UV rays pay no regard to the temperature. They can get to you at any time of the year, anywhere in the world. Especially when there’s snow on the ground, it’s important to keep using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. The good news is that, with the shorter day, you don’t have to apply it as often. Depending on when you first step outside, once a day may be sufficient.

Moisturize: In case you haven’t noticed, the winter winds have a tendency to leave little cracks of dryness all over one’s skin, particularly in areas, like the face and hands, that are more exposed to the open air. Find a light, oil-free moisturizer that you can apply several times a day to fight against those damaging frigid gales. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water.

Keep step with your feet: Throughout the winter, we tend to keep our feet bundled up in layers of thick socks and heavy shoes or boots, but this is exactly why we should not neglect them. Bundling up the feet leads to roughness, chapped skin, and discoloration. Each night, take some time to care for your feet. This way, they’ll be in good shape when sandal weather eventually comes around.

Eat a skin- and hair-nourishing diet: Getting your daily dosage of fruits and vegetables will help keep your skin, eyes, and hair healthy through the winter. Winter is the most damaging season for the skin and hair, so you want to make sure that they have all the nutrients they need to rebuild themselves on a regular basis.

Use a humidifier: During the winter, the air inside our closed-in homes and offices can become stagnant and unhealthy for the skin and hair. Using a humidifier will help keep the air fresh and will prevent your skin and hair from being sapped of their natural moisture. Also, if you have a chance, open a window every now and then for five minutes at a time to let some air into the room. The room may be cold for a minute, but your heating system will take care of it, and it’s worth it for the fresh air.

Dressing Up Your Jeans – Make That Favorite Pair Work For You

March 9th, 2010

Do you have a pair of jeans that’s a little too perfect? We’ve all had this problem: You may have 10 or 20 pairs of jeans, but there’s that one, favorite pair that you wish you could wear over and over, for all occasions. And the worst part is, in most cases, when you try to buy a second pair that is exactly the same, it’s never quite right. Some magical algorithm of mysterious, non-repeatable elements made that one pair of jeans absolutely perfect, and even the automated processes of clothing factories can’t make it happen more than once.

Here’s the thing: You don’t have to worry about it. By nature, jeans are meant to be worn more than other types of clothing. Unless you wear them on a hot day or spill something on them, you can usually get away with wearing jeans two or three times in between washing them. Sure, you might want to keep it to yourself sometimes, but no one’s paying as close attention as you might think.

Plus, in this day and age, there’s really no stigma attached to wearing jeans for many types of dress-up and quasi dress-up occasions. All you have to do is follow one of these tips, and you’ll have no problem dressing up your jeans.

Wear them with a nice jacket and nice shoes. The easiest way to dress up your jeans is to get fancy with everything else in your outfit. Wear a nice belted jacket and some dress-up shoes, and you’ll instantly elevate your jeans to dressy status.

Distract with accessories. If you don’t want people to notice that your favorite jeans are not quite right for an occasion, use things like bags, sunglasses, and other bright accessories to draw attention away from the jeans.

Use a feminine blouse. The more girly your top, the less people will notice that your bottoms aren’t dress pants. Within reason, of course, wear a bright blouse with some nice ruffles and an attractive pattern. No matter whether you’re wearing jeans or slacks, your blouse will sell your outfit and make it look like you’re truly dressed for the occasion.

Use heels. No matter what type of pants you wear, heels are always going to make you a little bit dressier. Of course, heels alone can’t turn an everyday outfit into a fancy dressing gown, but within certain limits, you can really class up your outfit with some fashionable footwear.

Get a blazer. Traditionally, blazers haven’t always been considered one of the best tops to go with a pair of jeans, but these days, blazers and jeans have become a fashionable combo. In fact, you can wear a nice feminine blazer with almost anything, and you’ll automatically look dressed for success.

Go black. If your favorite pair of jeans is black, then you don’t have to resort to deceptive tricks. On the casual-to-dressy scale, black jeans are higher than jeans of any other color. So, if you’re careful with the rest of your outfit, you can wear black jeans to practically any fancy occasion.

7 of the Most Common Make-up Mistakes Young Girls Make

March 9th, 2010

Applying make-up is an art, and many women never master it until they get well into adulthood. For those of us who’ve been doing it for years, it can be funny to look at the common make-up mistakes that young girls make, sometimes even into their 20s. But none of us is immune to a little make-up slip-up every now and then; so even if you’ve been using make-up for decades, pay close attention to these all-too-common mistakes.

Being too shiny: We all like to be a little bit shimmery and glittery sometimes, but it’s best to keep it simple. If you’re going to use sparkling lip gloss, for instance, avoid getting too glowy with your other features. If you’re going to use a shimmering finishing powder on your cheeks, use a simple dash of it and keep everything else natural. Otherwise, you’ll end up looking wet or sweaty, which we can all agree is not a good look.

Powdering up: A dusting of fine powder is great for enhancing your natural complexion and giving that smooth, non-shiny look. But applying too much powder can quickly begin to work against you. Any time powder is easily visible on your face, you’ve put on too much. Remember, just use a light dusting. You don’t want to look like you’re hiding something.

Matching make-up to clothing: If you’re dressing up in fancy clothing, keep your make-up simple. A common make-up mistake is assuming that just because you’re dressed up, you have to get “dressy” with your make-up. In fact, the opposite is true. The more dressed-up you get, the more dressed-down you should be in your face and skin. Even worse is the mistake of matching make-up color to clothing color. This just makes you look weirdly monotonous.

Emphasizing everything: When applying make-up, there should be one, and only one, feature that you try to highlight. If you’re going to bring out your lips, keep your eye make-up simple. If you’re going to apply heavy eye shadow, use nothing but transparent lip gloss. If you try to highlight both, you’ll end up highlighting neither—so make your choice.

Too tan: Stay away from bronzers that make you look an unnatural shade of golden orange. If you’re going to darken your complexion with make-up, choose colors that look natural on you, and don’t overdo them. Remember, beauty is all about enhancing what you’ve got, not turning yourself into something unrecognizable.

Too much red: Delicate red lipstick can be the perfect tool to enhance the fullness of your lips, but avoid cheap lipsticks that bleed. Keep things orderly with a thin liner border around your mouth, and don’t apply lipstick directly. Instead, use a soft brush, starting from the center of your mouth and brushing outward.

Under-maintenance: If you have a lot of experience using make-up, then I don’t need to tell you that it requires regular maintenance. You can’t just put it on in the morning and expect it to stay perfect all day. Any time you’re wearing make-up, be sure to check yourself around once an hour. But don’t overdo it—you don’t want to seem vain.

Skin Sins: Break Bad Habits for Better Looking Skin

March 8th, 2010

The hardest thing about beauty is that it’s rarely as simple as we try to make it out to be. Even if you do all the things you’re supposed to do to get healthy-looking hair and skin, there are any number of bad habits that can negate all of your good efforts. For example, if you don’t drink the right amount of water, if you don’t eat exactly the right foods, or even if you have the wrong kind of job, no amount of skin care is going to give you a perfect look. So, to help you get closer to skin perfection, let’s look at a few bad habits that are easy to change.

Not sleeping enough: The less sleep you get, the worse your skin will look. In fact, for each hour of sleep that you lose, the negative effects on your skin can increase exponentially. During sleep is when your skin repairs itself, flushes out toxins, and creates new cells. Missing out on this can lead to messy, blotchy skin and a poor complexion.

Phone overuse: Your pockets are not the cleanest places in the world—not to mention that restaurant table, your desk at work, or even your hands. Thus, it stands to reason that holding your phone against your cheek spreads dirt and toxins to your face. I’m not saying you have to be obsessive about it, but do keep your phone clean, and try not to press it against your skin when you talk.

Smoking: There are already a million reasons to kick your nicotine habit, but if you needed another one—smoking has horrendous effects on your skin. It’ll take the life out of your skin. It’ll make you blotchy, wrinkled, and slightly discolored. And the longer you smoke, the older you’ll look.

Alcohol: A glass of wine now and then can actually do good things for your skin, but overindulging quickly takes you into dangerous territory. Having more than one drink per day can inflame your skin, dehydrate you, and make you look puffy and red.

Touching your face: Do you have a habit of rubbing your chin, leaning on your hand as you work, or rubbing your eyes? Not only do these things spread dirt and bacteria to your face, but they can also clog your pores and irritate the skin, which can lead to poor color and acne.

Not exercising: The more you exercise, the better your skin will look. This is a simple fact. Exercising decreases tension, encourages blood flow, and helps in cell turnover, all of which contribute to a clear, healthy-looking complexion.

Popping pimples: Yes, it can be very tempting to break out the tweezers or just to give your zit a good squeeze, but this only worsens the situation, pushing the bacteria deeper and leading to infection and scarring. So, hide from the world for a day or two if you have to; just don’t pop it.

Eating bad food: If you want healthy looking skin, stay away from sugary or carb-heavy products, and stick to high-protein foods and whole grains. For an even better effect, eat skin-friendly foods like nuts and avocados.

Top 5 Fashionable Looks For Modern Women

March 6th, 2010

If you often have trouble deciding what to wear, it could be because you haven’t cultivated a look for yourself. Even if you have enough clothes to get by, if your clothes come from a smattering of unfocused styles and don’t congeal into a solid, identifiable look, then of course you’re going to have trouble figuring out what to wear. If, for example, most of your tops don’t go with your favorite jeans, or if you have a lot of articles of clothing that you just don’t enjoy wearing, then there’s obviously something wrong with this picture.

You can make your fashion life easier by cultivating a look. To help get you started, here are the five main categories of looks for the modern woman:

The casual look: When you have the classic look, you go with the old standbys-plain t-shirts, jeans, blazers, plain pants-and go for a laid-back, no-fuss vibe. You don’t put much thought into what’s currently trendy, and you shy away from clothing that’s too frilly or revealing. Plain colors are best: black, navy, gray, white, khaki. Everything is simple and straightforward. It can even be a little tomboyish.

The bombshell look: If you look good and you want the world to know, the bombshell look might be perfect for you. Choose clothes that accentuate your figure. Wear form-hugging dresses, tight jeans, and tops that reveal some skin. With this look, your body is the main attraction, so too many frills or busy clothing patterns can be distracting.

The bohemian look: If you like vintage clothing, artsy patterns, and eclectic styles, the bohemian look is the way to go. Contrary to popular belief, dressing bohemian is not about sloppiness or not caring. It’s mixing old-fashioned styles with the hippest trends of the day. This takes some work. Banish plain shades from your wardrobe, and cultivate a look that blends multiple textures and cosmopolitan styles from around the world. Just don’t overdo it. Going too far with the bohemian look can take you into goofy territory.

The ladylike look: The ladylike look is perfect for women who like to look charmingly feminine without being overtly flirty. You’ll wear plenty of skirts, dresses, and feminine tops, and your purse and other feminine accessories will be essential parts of your look. A little bit of lace and some ruffles can add some charm, and classic colors are most appropriate. Go with gray, black, or white, and stay away from colors that are too bright.

The minimalist look: If you want to project a straightforward, businesslike manner, cultivating the minimalist look is a great way to direct the attention away from your clothing and toward the business at hand. Stay away from frills of all types, and don’t be afraid to go monochrome-but only with non-flashy, more conservative colors. Avoid clothing that shows too much skin, and keep your accessories minimal and not too fancy. Simple earrings, a couple of rings, and a small purse are all you need to complement this look.
