After Plastic Surgery
July 31, 2008 No Comments
Many people elect to have plastic surgery performed on them. Some people choose to have plastic surgery to fix a medical error, for self enhancement and self confidence while others are medically obliged to receive certain surgeries in life and death circumstances such as in cases of obesity and gastric bypass surgery. Whatever the reason is, ninety nine percent of the surgeries recover some sort of recovery process after plastic surgery. After plastic surgery many patients may experience bruising, mild pain, or other symptoms. However, the most important part after plastic surgery is the recovery.
Keeping recovery in mind is crucial after plastic surgery. From how you plan the plastic surgery to how to maintain local errands you must keep many things in mind after having plastic surgery. For example, if you plan to have an operation that is low key and does not require many days of recovery then planning your operation for Friday is perfect. You will not have to take off additional time because you can use Saturday and Sunday for your recovery time. Sometimes plastic surgery can be hard on the body. Therefore, if you are the main chef in the house (and cannot stand the cooking of your husband) then you should prepare some meals and then freeze them. You should also do the necessary shopping for the time that you will be recovering after your plastic surgery.
You should always have plenty of ice in stock and Tylenol after your plastic surgery. Many times pain and swelling go side by side with plastic surgery so you want to be very prepared. If you wake up in the middle of the night, you do not want to stay up the whole night. You will need plenty of beauty rest and staying up all night is not beneficial to your recovery.
Even if you are an independent woman, you will not be able to drive yourself home. You may be able to drive yourself to the surgery but you will not be able to drive home. Therefore, the best idea for after plastic surgery recovery, you should find someone such as a parent, spouse, partner or friend to drive you home. You will also have check up appointments, that you still may be unable to drive yourself to the plastic surgery clinic. Therefore, arrange your driving arrangements prior to the surgery.
After the procedure you may think that you look worse but this due to the average swelling and bruising that normally occurs alongside plastic surgery. Therefore, you must have this in mind. After the plastic surgery you will be unable to do your normal activities due to the pain medication and certain distractions from the bandages. You should also know that some recoveries take up to two weeks before you can get back to your normal life which includes going to work.
As you can see there are various reasons why your preparations for after plastic surgery recovery are crucial.

Plastic surgery is all the craze nowadays but that does not mean that everyone should receive it. Some operations are risky while others are simply unnecessary. Sometimes plastic surgery has received a negative reputation from these surgeries and many stereotypes for the people who have received the different types of surgeries. However, there are many advantages to these types of surgeries. The most beneficial advantage is that plastic surgery often gives the patient self esteem.
It may seem unbelievable that plastic surgery boosts confidence, but let’s look at a few examples of how plastic surgery would boost one’s confidence. Many people often go to plastic surgeons for tummy tucks. Tummy tucks are advantageous for people who have given birth, lost a substantial amount of weight or have stretch marks in the stomach region. Some of these events can be taken care of with the use of dieting and exercise. Nevertheless, many people cannot get rid of these things and become very self conscious. When summer rolls around, many people may avoid going to he beach or pool because they do not want others to see them, making them very self conscious. The advantage of tummy tucks is that they offer self confidence to people who are embarrassed of showing off their stomach.
Many people rely on their physical attractiveness and their obsession of remaining young. Sometimes the bags under people’s eyes are not the most attractive sight nor the crows feet at the side of the eyes. To look better and feel better while looking at oneself can be resolved by performing a procedure called blepharoplasty or what is normally known as eyelid tightening. This procedure is very advantageous for those patients who want to look younger by erasing some lines.
Some men have enlarged breasts and this is a problem for most men. Besides the initial embarrassment, these enlarged breasts can also encourage breast cancer in men. Therefore, even though a breast removal is advantageous for the man in terms of confidence a breast reduction is also advantageous to keep him healthy and cancer free.
There are multiple advantages of plastic surgery whether it be to gain self confidence, lower the risk of unhealthy diseases or to just feel better about oneself. Individuality is a great characteristic yet some people seem to feel out of place in all aspects of life. Appearance does not need to be one of these factors. The advantages of plastic surgery do include fitting in to the population with one’s physical appearance as well as being able to easily mix in with other people. Plastic surgery may seem superficial but it is a rather sensitive subject for those who truly need the operation.
Just make sure that if you are considering one of these procedures that you are doing it for the right reasons. Use it as a tool to look better not as a cure for low self esteem. Many plastic surgery facilities employ counselors now to help you make sure that you are having these procedures for cosmetic touch ups and not as a band aid for emotional issues.
Sincerely, Caterina Christakos - founder of stillagirl.com - a positive place for women and girls

Laser cosmetic surgery for the face is one of the best techniques used in order to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles while also helping to increase the natural production of collagen in the face. Laser cosmetic surgery for the face is much faster and less painless than a face lift but both cosmetic procedures do differ and upon the recommendation of your doctor you should see whether you are a better candidate for one over the other. Laser cosmetic surgery for the face only helps the appearance of the face by removing facial problems while the face lift tightens everything in the face including the skin, muscles, fat and tissue and also removes the excess skin from the facial region.
Laser cosmetic surgery can be costly depending on the different procedures that may be performed. An IPL laser treatment costs only $411 while a nonablative laser skin resurfacing costs on average $580. However, ablative laser skin resurfacing costs more than four times on average coming in at $2,418 per session. One should also keep in mind, depending on what is being removed, you may need multiple laser surgeries. People who are looking to remove tattoos will have to have multiple laser sessions over a period of a few months.
Other facial problems that lasers cosmetic surgery for the face can do are remove fine lines, wrinkles, warts, moles, acne scars, blemishes, acne, general scarring, lines around the face and nose, and hair. Rough skin can also be removed so that there is a fresh palette of skin. This being said, it is now easier for new collagen to grow on the surface giving the face a new and youthful appearance.
The procedure consists of a hot laser beam that burns the skin cells off until it reaches the layer of skin where the root of the problem is. Many times, multiple sessions of laser cosmetic surgery for the face are necessary because the root of the problem is profound making it painful, tedious and long to do all in one standing session. Considering that the skin cells have been burned away, it is normal to have a redness, soreness and irritation of the skin. Creams and lotions are given to the patient in order to recover and sooth the skin, which should be used as the doctor advises the patient as this will help the skin to recover normally with the least amount of complication.
You should be advised that laser cosmetic surgery for the face is not for everyone. Depending on the skin tone of the person, sometimes laser cosmetic surgery can distort the color pigmentation of the face creating permanent color disfiguration. Other patients may have very sensitive skin that may become scarred or damaged because of constant irritation and burning sensations. Your doctor should be able to assess your skins reaction to the treatment in order to give you the go ahead or to recommend a different facial procedure.

Ever wonder how on earth you will keep your face looking fresh throughout the summer? Have you spent a day playing in the water only to come home and realize that your face is now three shades DARKER than your foundation?
There’s no faster way to look like you’re a summer intern with the clowns at the circus than to put light make-up on a sun-kissed face. And unless this is your wish, I’m pretty sure that deep down in your heart of hearts you’d rather not make an appearance that makes your friends wonder if you’ve decided to make a career change!
One way you can keep your facial beauty is to be sure you apply sunscreen to your cheeks (as well as the rest of your beautiful face!) before heading out the door in the morning. Finding a good, moisturizing lotion that includes a minimum of an SPF15 rating is a necessity.
The folks at KORRES have come up with a delightful little tube of sunscreen that with regular application can help you keep that youthful glow that shows off your facial beauty. beauty adviceNeed to Apply Makeup? Techniques Make it Easy
July 17, 2008 No Comments
There are many things about beauty that do not come naturally. Applying makeup can be something that a woman struggles with and that is normal. Nobody is born knowing how to apply mascara or the perfect place to apply blush. It is something you learn. What I love about writing beauty reviews is that there’s always something new to learn about how I apply makeup.
Techniques are simply methods that let you learn the basic and branch out from there. For example, eye shadow can be applied in numerous ways depending upon the look you desire. It is possible that you will never learn all the ways to apply to eye shadow because there are just so many.
The most common and simple approach to applying eye shadow is to cover the entire lid with a single color. Not much to that. What if you learn a couple of simple techniques to take that look to a whole new level? Applying mascara, though, is one thing that is generally done the same way.
-
You start by applying to the upper lashes using the brush to simply sweep the lashes.

So what else can you do with mascara?
Recently, I discovered the Imju Fiberwig Long Lash Kit that basically walks you through a great technique. How? The kit includes a “How to go Beyond Mascara with Fiberwig” DVD and a Compact Eyelash Curler. Never used a curler? You’ll learn how to create dramatic and long looking lashes with simple steps.
You can spend a lifetime learning to apply makeup. Techniques give you the chance to try it out in new and fun ways. That is what makes makeup so fun and such a great addition to your daily routine.

Think of makeup like fresh fruit. If you don’t consume it within a certain amount of time it will go bad. Unlike that crispy new apple, it may not be as readily apparent that your makeup has turned. Applying old makeup and skin care products to your face can actually be doing more harm than good. Bacteria can get into even the most expensive brand name products and irritate your skin.
Mascara is a prime example. Old mascara is a prime target for bacteria and can lead to eye infections. So throw out those old clumpy tubes. I don’t care if you have a date. Which is worse for your guy to see - macara-less lashes or the inside of an emergency room?
Here are some rules of thumb when it comes to your makeup’s expiration:
1) Unopened cosmetics and skin care products have the longest shelf life. Keep all cosmetics in a cool dry environment. Hint, your bathroom is probably not the best place to store your cosmetics.
2) If your makeup looks like it is separating ( i.e. if it looks like there is liquid sitting on top of a thicker substance) then it is more than time to toss it. Don’t try shaking it to try to reblend it, unless the product specifically says that this is normal.
3) Don’t put the makeup directly on your hands, straight from the bottle. Use a cotton swab or double folded tissue paper. Your fingers have germs and natural oils that can easily get into your products with repeated use.
4) Keep jar sealed tightly. Yes, I know that you are in a hurry to get out the door but this only takes an extra second or two.
5) Replace mascara at least every three months and really make sure that it is sealed tightly between uses.
These are just a few tips on how to keep your makeup fresh so that you can continue to have wonderful glowing skin and less skin reactions. These tips are even more important if you have any type of problem with acne. Don’t let your makeup be one more battle between you and your quest for clear, beautiful skin.

Afro Hair Advice
July 9, 2008 No Comments
Ladies of color have always had a special challenge when it comes to getting hair style advice. The advice and beauty reviews out there are often not targeted towards the special needs of those with thick African-American hair. Getting afro hair advice can be tricky if you don’t know who to ask or what to use.
Typically when a person hears the term afro they think of the teased, high hairstyle. However, many times this word is simply used to describe African-American hair. This may help you when you are searching for afro hair advice.
-
One of the keys to getting good afro hair advice is to make sure you are getting it from a good source.
-
Use the proper tools
-
Use appropriate styling products.
You need to make sure that the advice is for African American hair types and not other ethnic hair types. What works for one person may not always work for another person since each ethnic group seems to have their own hair types and hair issues. (Caucasian parents who have adopted African American children tell me this is a common issue.)
Some of the common concerns that African American women have about their hair is dealing with it being dry and brittle. Growing African American hair long can be a challenge, but it is not necessarily impossible.
To grow your African American hair long you have to find products that help promote the strength in hair and combat dryness which can make it brittle. A good product to try is Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Hair Mask by Phyto. It works to replenish hair moisture.
However, I’d still recommend that you ask a stylist who understands hair texture, tools and products what they recommend for you.
