I hear you girls! Everyone wants to know about the hottest trend in eye makeup how to apply smoky eye shadow. Your most basic needs for this look are a black and brown eyeliner, a black and brown eye shadow, a great mascara, and a smudge brush. For more choice and variety you can choose from a specially designed color palette like Pop Beauty Eye Class - Smokey Eyes Smokey Eyes.
- Start by using your dark brown liner to shade in your upper and lower lashes. Do this by simply coloring your lash against your lid. You want some of that color to go through to the lids.
- Then use your black liner on the outer corners of each eye-again color the lashes and the lid.
- Take the brown pencil and draw a thin line along your upper eyelid.
- Now take a good smudge brush, I like the Stila #28 Smudge Pot Brush
, and spread that liner all over your upper lid.
- Use a brown or bronze shadow to apply along the crease of your eyelids.
- Use a black or very dark shade on the outer corner of your eyelids.
- Finally, smudge a bit of black shadow under your lower lash line, add mascara, and you’re done.
This may seem like a lot of steps for eye makeup if you are usually used to applying a single color. But once you do it a couple of times, it really is easy to achieve a dramatic and sultry look. When it comes to eye makeup how to apply smoky eye shadow is a skill that every girl needs to have in her bag of tricks.

How to Apply Multi Color Eye Makeup
July 16, 2007 No Comments
So you have a beautiful new compact full of eye shadow colors that compliment your complexion to a tee. But you don’t know what to do with them! Does the dark shade go on the top or the bottom of your lid? Do you start at the inner or outer part of your eye? Well, you’re not alone. How to apply multi color eye makeup is a skill that most women just try to figure out as they go. The whole point of using more than one eye shadow color is to create shadows and contours in just the right places. But where are those places- you ask?
Let’s start by choosing a color palette that includes 3 eye shadow shades and an eyeliner that you like. For explanation, we’ll use the Bare Escentuals iQuad Eyeshadow Compact Quad.
Start with the olive (or your chosen color) eyeliner. Use your hand to pull skin taut and gently line from the inner corner of the eye outward. Use the included buffing brush to apply the lightest of your three tones (ivory) to your lid area, up to its natural crease. Use your next lightest color (citrus twist) to cover from your crease to just below your brow. Brush outwards, in an attempt to let the color flow, rather than stop abruptly. Finally, use your darkest shade (bronze) to emphasize the back corner of your eyelid. Take care to blend your colors. The goal is to add depth, and draw attention in a subtle way.
This is just one example of how to apply multi color eye makeup. The possibilities are truly endless.
