How to put on eyeliner

Putting on eyeliner does not have to be difficult. It simply takes a steady hand.
First let’s look at eye liner colors. The eye liner color that you choose will have a big effect on your look.
- For a natural look go with a brown liner and for an evening or more dramatic look black liner does the trick every time.
- Dust your top and bottom lid with loose powder before applying your liner. The powder will help your liner stay in place.
- If you have a steady hand go for a liquid liner. If you are just starting out with eye liner, go with a pencil as they are easier to control.
- When applying eyeliner start in the middle of your eye and work outward toward the corner of your eye. Try to get as close to your lash line as possible. I like to line just the top lid for a more dramatic effect but you can also line the bottom eyelash line.
- You can also use a makeup sponge or a soft tissue to gently dab the eyeliner line for a softer look.
How to Wear Eye Makeup

Tips of the trade on how to wear eye makeup are endless. This is because there are so many looks you can create, colors you can choose from, and tools to achieve the looks you want. Here are two dramatically different ways to learn how to wear eye makeup. The first involves taking tips, tools and makeup from experts in the trade.
For instance, look at the Smashbox Beauty Book ($181 Value) Beauty Book“>Smashbox Beauty Book. The makeup experts at the Smashbox Photo Studio in Los Angeles created this educational beauty package. This kit will give you the makeup they use, and specific step-by-step guidance on how to wear eye makeup- not to mention face and lip makeup too!
The other route is to try a product and play around with it on your own. The Stila Smudge Pots Black are among my favorite eye makeups. This is a gel eyeliner and shadow combined into one product. I recommend you get something like the Clinique eyeliner brush for application. Then just play around with this one. The gel has a completely different feel than you’ll get from powders. But I personally like how it goes on, and the look it creates.
I’ve already given you a lot of advice on how to create specific looks with your eye shadow and eye liner. But the most important pointer I can give on how to wear eye makeup is to choose products that you enjoy using. After all, beauty starts by feeling great.
